Latest Ski Report

Good morning skiers and boarders, this is Craig with Caribou’s Ski Report for the week of February 2-8, 2020.

Weather Conditions

The sun is finally back! Enjoy crystal clear blue skies all week in Lutsen. Clear skies can undoubtedly guarantee you perfect views of Lake Superior from ontop of Eagle and Moose Mountains, and results are Instagram worthy pictures to remember your skication! Temperatures will be lower this week, so be sure to bundle up and wear a neck gator to stay warm.

Ski Conditions

Lutsen Mountains now has 92 of its 95 runs open, and there isn’t a better time to ski than in February. The backcountry trails are fantastic for tree skiing, and the re-appearance of the sun makes for a happy day on the slopes. Expect softer snow on Uller and Eagle because of how the sun hits the mountains throughout the morning. You can find firmer and faster groomers over on Moose Mountain.

Best Run Right Now

Red Rider; it’s a black diamond tree run on the far side of Moose Mountain. It has some challenging tight turns between trees and a fun drop at the end. You can continue to Timberwolf to experience some similar tree action. If you’re looking to get away from other skiers, I recommend spending some time over in the trees for some solitude.

Terran Park

In addition to miles of backcountry tree trails, Lutsen has two terrain parks that are now open for those looking for a bit more excitement. Just head over to Mystery Mountain to the Board X Park or cruise down the Bridge Run to Timberjack Park.

As I said, it’s going to be an awesome week to hit the slopes with nothing but blue skies and over 90 runs to hit, so call in sick and head to Lutsen Mountains, and I hope to see you out on the slopes.

Don’t forget to join us at Moguls Grille (Ski-In Access) for Ski Apres or Jazz Brunch on Sunday morning.

Hi, I’m Craig!

It is my job to ski as many runs as possible and be the guy who can tell you everything about every run on the mountains. I’m here to help you plan your trip and get the most out of your skiing experience!

I’ll be wearing black snow pants, a green coat, a black helmet, and orange/white Volkl skis. Say hi if you see me, I would love to share a chairlift and to hit a few runs with anybody that wants to!
