Latest Ski Report

Good morning skiers and boarders, this is Craig with Caribou’s Ski Report for the week of March 1-7 2020.

Weather Conditions

Spring skiing is here to stay! Temps expected to remain in the high 30’s and low 40’s throughout the entire week. So for those who put up with the bitter cold and frozen toes earlier this season can now rejoice in the warm air and longer days. Skiing and riding in March & April are arguably the best 2-months at Lutsen Mountains. The softer snow is more forgiving for beginners and pitstops on the mountain turn into mini beach days with all that sun to soak up.

So gather your friends, get outside in the sunshine, and enjoy several runs at Lutsen. You can even ditch those facemasks for sunblock this week.

Ski Conditions

Conditions are IDEAL. Despite the beautiful warm weather, Lutsen Mountains has 94 of its 95 runs still open. With the substantial snow base from massive snowstorms early in the season and cold nights yet, we’ve had just minimal snow loss. Expect to have excellent spring skiing through April, maybe even a day or two in May. There is even some fresh snow in the forecast later this week!

Because of the cold nights and warm days, expect softer snow on Uller and Eagle right away in the morning because of how the sun hits the mountains. You can find firmer and faster runs over on Moose Mountain, but as the sun moves west, expect softer snow all around.

Best Run Right Now

Caribou Curve to Coyote ending at the high-speed lift. Caribou Curve is one of the farthest runs to the left on Moose Mountian if you’re facing the mountain. This is one of the longest routes you can take to maximize your time on the mountain, and you can still make it back to the high-speed lift.

Don’t forget to join us at Moguls Grille (Ski-In Access) for Lunch, Ski Apres, or Jazz Brunch on Sunday morning. For Prior Ski Updates Click Here >>

Hi, I’m Craig!

It is my job to ski as many runs as possible and be the guy who can tell you everything about every run on the mountains. I’m here to help you plan your trip and get the most out of your skiing experience!

I’ll be wearing black snow pants, a green coat, a black helmet, and orange/white Volkl skis. Say hi if you see me, I would love to share a chairlift and to hit a few runs with anybody that wants to!
