Minnesota’s North Shore has jagged Sawtooth rock ridges rising above the depths of Lake Superior. The varied topography strikes a stunning relief against the vast blueness of the world’s largest inland lake. With all these rocks and hills, it only makes sense to go out climb a few.

Carlton Peak

At 900-feet above Lake Superior, Carlton Peak is the highest climbing summit right along the North Shore. Located within Temperance River State Park, access is via the hiking trail from the east. Various climbing opportunities include everything from bouldering to 80-foot climbs. And everyone is rewarded with amazing wide-open panoramas of Lake Superior and the Temperance River Valley.

Moose Mountain

Peaking at over 1000-feet above Lake Superior, Moose Mountain provides the dramatic back drop to Caribou Highlands Lodge and offers a destination for skiers and visitors aboard the red gondolas. Climbers challenge themselves on the steep south face and the palisades, rocky cliffs, followed by a beverage on the deck of the Summit Chalet, overlooking Lake Superior. Hike or take the 8-minute gondola ride back to the main chalet.
