North Shore State Trail at Caribou Highlands Lodge

The North Shore State Trail is a 153-mile trail from Duluth to Grand Marais. Major and minor side trails and spur trails offer you the chance to explore the entire North Shore. The spur trail leading to the State Trail is right across the road from Caribou Highlands Lodge!


Recommended Snowmobile Trails

Spur & Barker Lake Trails

Pick up the spur trail across the road and ride through the woods and over the Poplar River to the State Trail.

State Trail South to Tofte Trails

Once on the State Trail, head south to Tofte. The trail skirts the ridgelines, heads through meadows and through the woods of Temperance River State Park.

State Trail North to Lutsen Trails

Once on the State Trail, head north and pick up the nearby Lutsen loops. These trails skirt Caribou, Ward and Deeryard Lakes and feature several overlooks.

State Trail to the Gunflint Trail System

Looking for a day ride? Head north on the State Trail and pick up the west branch of the Gunflint Snowmobile Trail. Tour the forests to Twin Lakes and return on the east branch or continue on for miles of additional touring trails rolling through the woods, lakes and hills adjacent to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.
