The Superior Hiking Trail is full of amazing vistas but the Section 13 Cliffs are especially awesome. The woods give way to huge tall cliffs that overlook the Baptism River Valley. On a warm day, you might see climbers scaling these cliffs. We had a delicious picnic on top of one of the huge boulders – I had never seen anything like this on any other part of the Superior Hiking Trail.

The trail is short – about 2.5 miles round trip, but the view is awe inspiring. Beware – the hiking is only for the seasoned hiker! There are several steep ascents and descents over very rocky terrain. Hiking poles are recommended as they are extremely helpful. This is definitely not a hiking trip to bring young children on. It would be easy for them to run nimbly over the rocky path, but there are a lot of danger on the cliffs.

To get there, turn  inland from Highway 61, at mile marker 65.3. Take Lake County Road 6 about 2.3 miles to a small, marked Superior Hiking Trail parking lot. Once there, hike North. It is really helpful to have theSuperior Hiking Trail guide book or a Superior Hiking Trail map. The Superior Hiking Trail store is located on the main street in Two Harbors. The staff will gladly answer all of your questions!
