Just up the road between Lutsen and Tofte the Onion River flows into Lake Superior. It gets its name from the ramps, or wild onions, that bloom all the way up and down the river.

They’re always the first green you’ll see in spring.

The Onion River is a great place to collect sweet wild onions in the spring.

There are also some great picnic tables along the cliff overlooking Highway 61 and Lake Superior. It’s an ideal spot for lunch and a hike!
